Budget Analyst

We are seeking a full-time Budget Analyst to support the Office of Grants Management and Office of Head Start Services within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF).


This role provides financial and analytical support for the grants management process for Head Start and Early Head Start grantees.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Gathers financial information and develops spreadsheets to support coordination of budgetary activities.
  • Assists with all phases of the budget process to include formulation, monitoring, presentation, and execution.
  • Monitors and analyzes expenditures, funding, and organizational spending plans to assist with budgetary activities; prepare justifications as needed.
  • Develops methods and procedures to enhance the financial monitoring and management of programs.
  • Helps with budgetary and financial management services.


  • Ability to obtain Public Trust suitability.
  • A minimum of a BA or BS degree in a field related to task activities from an accredited university or college with demonstrated coursework in accounting. Baccalaureate degree in accounting, finance, or business is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive professional experience related to the task activities including accounting, budgeting, federal discretionary grants management, and non-profit or for-profit financial management.
  • Demonstrated prior experience with the analyzing and reconciling monthly and quarterly accounting data.
  • Demonstrated prior experience with performing on-going analysis and monitoring of budgets
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated highly-developed organizational skills and ability to work effectively within precise timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly (oral and written).
  • Familiarity with Federal operations and regulations.
