Overview

Highlight is seeking an experienced Word Processor to support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA). You will join a team of document specialists and technical editors providing support services to prepare, revise and finalize scientific reports and other written products.

 

This is a remote/telework opportunity with an on-site meeting once a week.

Responsibilities

  • The planning and execution of layout, formatting, and typing of complicated statistical tables and equations in Word.
  • Layout of graphics in Word, and the preparation and revision of graphical elements of scientific documents (e.g., figures, charts, etc.).
  • Use of MS Word features in such as, styles, track changes, indexing, automatic generation of a table of contents, footnotes and endnotes.
  • Scientific terminology and statistical typing.
  • Equation editor in Word and PowerPoint.
  • Preparation of presentation materials like posters and slides using PowerPoint.
  • Document proofreading, bibliographic verification, file comparisons.
  • Use of Endnote reference management software in tandem with EPA’s proprietary reference database in the preparation of documents.
  • Preparing documents for on-line accessibility for disabled readers by performing Section 508 accessibility tagging and formatting.

Qualifications

  • Public Trust eligibility.
  • Must be highly attentive to detail and able to effectively manage difficult deadlines.
  • At least five (5) years’ professional word processing experience using recent versions of Microsoft Word, and advanced proficiency in English grammar, spelling, syllabification and punctuation of technical or unusual words.
  • Any of the following Microsoft Office Specialist certifications:
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Word 2013 Expert, or Microsoft Office Specialist 2013 Master (Word Expert path)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Word 2016 Expert, or Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Office 2016 Master
    • Microsoft Office Specialist: Microsoft Word Expert (Word and Word 2019) or Microsoft Office Specialist: Expert (Office 365 and Office 2019) (both Word exams)
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency using the following software applications:
    • Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook
    • Endnote
    • Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Photoshop and/or Illustrator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, associates, or vocational degree.
  • Graphics design experience.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud certifications for Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
